Tsakane Lodge
Comfortable and spiritually luxurious, Tsakane Bush Camp is a private camp we operate in Balule National Park, South Africa. Tsakane is an unfenced, private camp where you’ll feel at home with nature in our newly refurbished, spacious and individual huts. Fall asleep to the sounds of the bush, wake up to a chorus of birdsong and relax outside your lodge while watching the local wildlife walk by.

In Tsonga, Tsakane means “place of happiness”. So, after a day of bushwalking, self-driving or Big Game viewing, you can return to your private bush camp to relax around the Boma (campfire) and reminisce about the day’s adventures.
Tsakane Bush Camp sleeps 8 people in two-person lodges. Tsakane is occupied on a private basis; if there are 4 people in your safari party, the whole camp is still exclusively for you. And the best news? You don’t pay more, the nightly rate will be for 4 people!

Spotted recently...
This young female leopard, a queen of the wild, was spotted recently at Tsakane Bush Camp. Graham knew this was a female leopard due to her size. Male leopards are generally much larger weighing on average 30kgs more than female leopards.

Recently this giraffe casually walked by and stopped for a drink. This video was taken from our viewing lounge. It’s always special seeing a giraffe in the wild, especially when you’re about to have breakfast before a full day safari!
Our wildlife cam at Tsakane Bush Camp captured this elephant eating in the bush and meandering around in the area surrounding our safari camp. It was amazing to watch this footage, we can’t believe it was so close to our beautiful camp.

The African Boma
During your stay at Tsakane (and other bush camps we visit), you can experience a traditional African Boma.
The Swahili word “Boma” translates to enclosure. Traditionally, it was a place to gather and keep livestock safe from predators at night. Over time and during colonisation, the Boma evolved into a communal area where people would gather around a fire, share stories, and enjoy meals together. The Boma is a place of connection, storytelling, and community.
At Tsakane, we gather around the Boma to eat and share stories. Stories from the day, from our past and dreams to come. A Boma dinner is a must when on safari in Africa to truly experience this great continent’s culinary and cultural traditions.

On safari with us, you’ll get closer to nature than you ever dreamed possible. While out on safari, our private guides will help you understand the wild. You’ll learn to read signs in the blood-red earth, you’ll feel the ground shake to the rumble of elephants, you’ll breathe the same air as the mighty cats, and know the wild like never before.
Wildlife spotting doesn’t stop once you’re back at Tsakane. Our unfenced bush camp regularly welcomes wildlife, and from the safety of your lodge and viewing balconies, you’ll have a first-class ticket to some of South Africa’s most beautiful animals.
